We currently use FileMaker Pro 4.0 to track incoming calls and we have a couple of types of Knowledge Bases. Rather than re-invent the wheel, I would like to know if anyone is currently using something that we could adopt here in our environment. Design Considerations: Must be Cross-Platform compatible. We use both Macs and Windows based systems. Must be easy to learn, implement, modify, and maintain. Must run over TCP/IP. Must be searchable. Must generate reports on given criteria. Must be cheap. We are considering ?growing our own? web based Contact Tracking system, as well as a web based Knowledge Base. Specifically, software that enables students to do their work in a shared network area (a la Aspects), find class information (are instructors required/encouraged to post syllabi/reading lists/office hours on your internal web?), and perhaps get access to course materials through either the web or a shared network area (download text, listen/view music and art, participate in electronic discussion groups). I am not so interested in On-Line or Distance learning (like WebCT), unless you have found the software used for Distance learning can easily be used to manage classrooms. This is a rendition of the Call Tracking Database developed last year by Allison Batty and Jonathon Molitor at Pacific University. We took their core and made the necessary modifications to make it better suite our needs at LC. We've been using it now for over six months. We have not yet done much with a knowledgbase or getting statistics though the statistics have not been a problem. We've also tied all of our Y2K interviews with Staff and Faculty into the database as well. Currently, the five databases that make up our call tracking software consist of Consultants (info on who can handle calls), Item Inventory (our computer inventory for campus), Subject Categories (simply used to provide the list of call categories for the other databases), Customer (information on each customer. We did an intitial download for staff and faculty from our administrative server) and Calls (where calls get entered). Some of the neat features of the database is that it will send e-mail to the customer as well as the consultant assigned to the call, it will page consultants for priority 1 calls and since it is FM Pro, it is completely cross-platform. We have it running off a FileMaker Pro Server. I'd be happy to show it to you sometime if you are interested. I don't know how it would differ from what you already have but it has been working well for us. We are a branch campus that includes 334 FTE students, 53 full-time staff and faculty, 27 adjunct faculty, a lab of 35 computers, a classroom with 12 computers, a half-dozen modems, and a couple of servers. Staff, faculty, and lab computers are a mix of Windows (from 3.1 to 95/98 and NT) and Macintosh. E-mail, Web server, and Internet gateway services are provided from the McMinnville campus as are administrative computing services (Colleague, Banner). Our department also takes care of management and some repair of all of this campus' audiovisual equipment. There are days when the audiovisual equipment can take up the majority of our time, so we don't really have 2 FTE for computer support. Net of audiovisual and administrative loads, we probably have around 1.1-1.2 FTE for computer support. > > Thanks in advance for the replies > >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< > Margaret Worley, Asst.
