From callissb at whitman.edu Thu Jul 6 09:18:36 2000 From: callissb at whitman.edu (Shannon Callister) Date: Fri Jul 16 16:34:39 2004 Subject: advice about MIDI interfaces for USB Macs In-Reply-To: <199910221512.IAA27302@mail.ups.edu> Message-ID: Looking for advice about MIDI interfaces for new Macintoshes... Our Music department is receiving all new computers this summer, including many Macintosh iMacs and G4's. This raises the issue of identifying an appropriate MIDI interface to attach to these machines for faculty who use their computers for composition, sequencing, etc. In the past, we used an interface box that connected to the serial port. Now, with only USB available, we either need to purchase USB-to-serial adapters, or we need to learn about which USB interfaces work well. I have heard some bad stories about using music software together with serial MIDI interfaces via adapters. Does anyone have experience with faculty using these, or with using specific USB interfaces? thanks for any words of wisdom!
