Two groups are being targeted: User Services Staff and Network/Systems Managers. There will be guided round-table discussions for staff in each of these areas. Since this is very much a participatory meeting, let us know the topics of most interest to you. Some good ideas have already been forwarded but as we get additional feedback, we'll firm up an agenda and post it on the web, along with a registration form. There's no registration fee and lunch will be provided. What a deal! The only catch is that in order for this kind of meeting to be a success, we need you to come and actively participate. In addition, we have a web site, www.whitties.org, that is an online resource for Alumni. It provides the entire Alumni directory in searchable format, alumni can sign up for lifelong email accounts, etc. > Do you provide permanent school-related email addresses for them? Yes, the lifelong email addresses (username@whitties.org) are permanent addresses. At this time, they forward mail to their current email account. > If your school provides any of the above to alumni, what is the cost, > if > any, for support (include physical and human resources)? That's kind of hard to measure, I think. I'm the Technical Director, Multimedia Development here at Whitman, which means I run our Multimedia lab, I do lots of UNIX administration, some network stuff, and am the web master for our many web sites. So, part of my job is developing and maintaining whitties.org. I only deal with the technical stuff though, like "Why won't this page load" or "Why do I get this error" - The Alumni office deals with issues like "I'm looking for so and so" or "I don't know my Whitman ID". > Does the support reside with your IT department or with your alumni > organization? Support for the technical aspects of the Alumni web fall to the IT department, supporting the Alumni themselves is generally the Alumni office's job.
