My first inclination is to simply not permit it. But before we actually sit down next week to discuss the matter, I'd like to know how others of you deal with that kind of a need. Since I primarily deal with unix servers, I've heard lots of horror stories but don't really understand the complexities and/or weaknesses of Microsoft security. Would you or do you now allow such a practice on your campus, and how do you rest easy? Do you allow servers outside your control to be visible off-campus, or do you insist that externally accessible servers be centrally managed? I'd appreciate any advise you might have for me.
